Jessica Hardy Misses 100m Breaststroke

At the recent American Olympic Trials, the current 100m breaststroke world record holer, Jessica Hardy has missed out on the event. Hardy finished a close third in the final and only the first 2 go through to swimming in London 2012.

It is not all doom and gloom for the 25 year old as she did qualify for the 50m and 100m freestyle events. She said that she was initially heartbroken by missing out on the breaststroke but has come to terms with it and she will take a small break from the event for the time being. This will allow her to focus exculsivley on the freestyle events for the Games.

With hardy now out of the 100m event it opens the door for veteran Australian swimmer, Leisel Jones. Jones will be competing at her 4th Olympics and would love nothing more that to win gold in her pet event. With the current World Record holder out of the event it gives Jones, who is a former record holder, a great chance to enhance her already stellar reputation.
